Sew Teachable

I have heard this recently – the great saviour of the sinking business – let’s sell the package to the quilt shops. The great teaching package is set at $595.00.

For this price you get the pattern which you can give to the students who sign up for the package. And the videos – let’s not forget those.

HERE IS THE TWIST – I was reading a post from November 2015 – still no package available.

But as stated recently, for $595.00 you all get to sit around a computer and watch the almighty Oz sell you crap you need to make the bag, and then by about video 9 you actually see how to make the thing.

You only get to see the first pocket though and then you just have to work it out from there.

The side piece is still a great mystery. There is a video and the ONLY way to do it by Oz, but as many of us have found, that side piece can be a real bastard and the template doesn’t always work – because unlike Oz, most of us are not perfect. It’s easy to get it right when you spend 3 hours on lining it up, filming only the bit where it is lined up, and then move on with your life. Only 2 bags ever seen in public by the way.

You can of course recoup your investment for this teaching package. Sell 10 seats to the class at $50.00 a seat and boom, you’re pretty much there. Don’t forget how much more sales you will make on fabric, zips (no wait you HAVE to get them from them) thread, (wait again you have to get THAT from them) but you know all the things that sewists need, interfacing, seam ripper (better get two of those cos you are going to need it my friends) and any other notion or ruler you have to offer.

If you have a quilt and fabric shop, chances are you can already sew. Chances are also good that you have put a zipper in at some point of your life. If this is the case, you can make this bag WITHOUT a teaching package.

READ THE PATTERN and decide if you want to pay ANOTHER $595.00 for rhetoric and reflection, or like the thousands of others, just get the pattern, get your students to get the pattern and teach it / run a workshop together.
